Tsitsi Dangarembga Weighs In On ‘Happy Again’ by Winky D

Multi award winning writer and film director Tsisi Dangarembga weighs in on cultural appropriation in Winky Ds new video, ‘Happy Again’. The Bigman Winky D finally drops the awaited single 2 weeks before the year end. Festive season has always been a Winky D season where he stole the show to his limelight.

Winky D

‘Happy Again’ is a concept film that depicts a story of a princess in love with one of the public citizens within her father’s kingdom. The princess will be trying to escape a planned marriage with a Prince. It is a great story with a powerful message but not to Tsitsi Dangarembga liking.

Tsitsi weighs in because the royal family is white but not black. According to the writer, the depiction alone shows supremacy of the white race over the black.

‘Just had a look at Wink D’s “Happy Again”. While I love Winky D’s music and his charisma, in my opinion, the white girl fixation is becoming problematic…’

One of her followers asked what was the problematic error of the “white girl fixation‘ in the video. She added,

“Problematic in that it casts white women as more desirable than black women, which is one of the ways white supremacy has worked to make us at ourselves…”

Not all of her followers agrees with her but there is still some who does. What’s your opinion on the script used on ‘Happy Again’ By Winky D?

The only problem with this verdict is, this is not the first time we have seen this type of script. Do you still remember of ‘Jah Prayzah – Jerusalem???‘ It neve had such critics. However, maybe the reason why she raised her concern is because Tsitsi is a big Winky D fan.

‘Happy Again’ celebrates 401K views on YouTube in tits first week. Becoming the first one to gross that much volume of views in 24hrs alone. The single was produced by Oskid and Layaan Souljah. Visuals shot and chopped by Shawn Ray for Rec Button Media. Backing vocals by Rachel Mkorongo and Afue Anima Bekoe. Now streaming live on YouTube exclusively, arriving in stores very soon
