Phreshy feels tired but still hustles on and wish for a light at the end of the tunnel with Shungu.
Shungu is a Shona word that means ambition. The record tells a great story about the Ills and struggles that are been experienced by Zimbabweans.
When Covid 19 hit Zimbabwe, the nation was slammed with a heavy 6 month lockdown. That was meant to contain the virus from spreading. Like other countries, Zimbabwe could not provide aid for all the citizens which led to a severe draught and shortage of food.
Zimbabwe has a scale of 99% unemployment rate, most of its citizens live on hustles, sole traders, hand to mouth. Their money is in the streets not in government or companies budget. Therefore, a lockdown was hell on a lot to afford food, pay utilities or even school fees.
One of the notable things from Shungu, is the balance in terms of her narrative stories. Phreshy managed to paint a picture on both man and women side.
Moreso, she used the famous qoute by Hopewell Chin’ono, ‘DEM Loot’ blaming the government for failing to take care of its citizens as they feed their satiisfactions.
In a nutshell, Shungu sampled a classic record by the late Andy Brown called Shungu. Which addressed almost the same issues.
